Treatment overview

Periodontal tissue regeneration

Periodontal regeneration aims to rebuild selected supporting tissues that have been lost because of periodontitis. The techniques are used only in specific types of periodontal defects, such as many infrabony defects and selected furcation involvements, where periodontal tissue loss affects the support of the tooth.

The clinical result depends on the type of defect, periodontitis symptoms, oral hygiene, smoking, and the patient's maintenance program. When indicated, regenerative treatment can improve the prognosis and long-term stability of affected teeth, including loose teeth or teeth with reduced support.

After

Case 1

Guided tissue regeneration

Radiographic imaging of a case before and after application of guided tissue regeneration (collagen membrane and bone allograft). Radiographic filling of the lesion is observed and remains stable after 6 months.

Tissue regeneration After Case 2
After

Case 2

Guided tissue regeneration

Application of mineralized allograft to an extensive infrabony defect. Note that an absorbable collagen membrane was placed over the graft prior to wound suture (not depicted in the photographs).

Tissue regeneration Before Case 3
Before
Tissue regeneration After Case 3
After

Case 3

Periodontal regeneration

Application of mineralized allograft in combination with enamel matrix proteins (EMD-Emdogain). In cases where the combination of these materials is indicated, it provides the advantage of very good initial soft tissue healing.
