Treatment overview

Replacing several missing teeth

When a patient has more than one missing tooth, treatment may include a conventional prosthetic restoration supported by remaining teeth or fixed tooth replacement supported by two or more implants. A conventional bridge or partial denture can be appropriate in some cases, but supporting teeth may need preparation and may receive increased chewing forces.

Multiple implants can address multiple missing teeth without modifying healthy neighboring teeth. The surgical and restorative process is similar to single-implant treatment, but the treatment area is larger and the expected postoperative discomfort may be slightly greater.

Case 1

Missing multiple teeth

Case with an edentulous anterior region of the mandible. The patient lost her incisors after an automobile accident. The first photo shows severe bone loss caused by the injury, which was treated with grafting materials. An implant-supported PFM bridge was placed, together with a single crown on the left canine.

Missing multiple teeth

Images from the maxilla of the same patient. Several teeth in the maxilla had to be removed, including incisors, a canine, and premolars. The implants were placed with the aid of a surgical splint.
