Treatment overview

Immediate implant placement

In selected cases, an immediate implant can be placed at the same appointment as tooth extraction, when a missing tooth is being replaced and the clinical conditions are suitable. This is most common in the front area of the upper jaw, but it may also be considered in premolar areas.

Immediate implant placement can reduce waiting time, but it is usually combined with grafting materials to support the extraction socket. The area must be free of large lesions or uncontrolled infection and must have enough bone to provide initial implant stability. In the aesthetic zone, a temporary restoration may be placed during the healing phase before the final fixed tooth replacement begins.
