Treatment overview

Root canal treatment

Endodontic treatment, commonly known as root canal treatment, removes diseased, infected, or necrotic pulp from inside the tooth and seals the root canals. It may be needed when tooth pain, deep tooth decay, or tooth infection affects the inside of the tooth. Curved or narrow canals can increase the difficulty of the treatment.

A successful root canal treatment can help a tooth remain functional and pain-free. Depending on the case, treatment usually requires 1 to 3 appointments and may be performed by a specialized dentist, an endodontist.
